A World Moving Toward a Cashless Society
In 2013, a robber who broke into a bank in Stockholm, Sweden, had to leave empty-handed. That is because many bank branches in Sweden do not handle cash.
It is a scene that clearly shows how Sweden has come closest to a cashless society.
Sweden is a country whose monetary system developed early, to the point that it issued the world's first banknotes in 1661.
Yet in Sweden, cash is disappearing, and its place is being taken by card payments and mobile app payments called Swish.
In Korea, too, it is common to see people not using cash on city buses or in stores.
Recently, with Trump elected President of the United States, a world where cash disappears like this is getting much closer, and I think it may be necessary to study digital currencies and cryptocurrencies.
